We first met John and Rose in Zambia in the 1970s when John was the Commercial Manager with Anglo American. John was always the ultimate professional - knowledgeable, calm and articulate.
He spent his leisure time in Zambia raising the family and sailing. He was also keen on horse racing although he managed to avoid riding them. He left that to Rose.
After they left Zambia we called on them during visits to the UK - the perfect hosts.
When they emigrated to Oz we met up with them on various occasions. John was always a great listener and conversationalist.
And then there was his painting.
What a talented guy who lived life to the full - modestly and with a good sense of humour. A fantastic role model.
If there's something that needs organising on the other side he has probably already been nominated as facilitator and is doing a great job.
Lots of Love to Rose and the family
