  1. Farewell to a truly special person. I will miss your kind thoughtful personality, your intelligence, and especially your subtle clever sense of humour. Dog walks at Anvil Beach, bush fire brigade meetings and training sessions, fire callouts, much more will have an empty sad spot - but also smiles and a sense of thankfulness that our lives were touched by your presence. We will miss you.

  2. Dear David,
We love you. We miss you. You give the very best doggie cuddles and pats. Anvil Beach will continue to be a special place for us because you will be remembered daily as we run and play.
    Love Annise and Whinnie

  3. We are so incredibly shocked and devastated. David was a truly fabulous guy … we loved our chats and meets on the beach and all the wonderful interactions over the years. We learnt so much from David’s vast knowledge and truly respected his passion for nature and the Nullaki - a true gentleman. He will be missed greatly. Rest in Peace David. ❤️🙏🏻😢

  4. It’s many years since we met David. He needed someone to look after his precious dog Mackie he was an extremely anxious parent. David brought Mackie to our home with her Den, food, toys. kong, lead etc and gave us an A4 typed sheet of words Mackie knew. We were so impressed and thought ‘These Americans can even teach their dog the language’ David explained these were her familiar words she would react to. David’s devotion to his dog came across in other aspects of his life and there is no doubt he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. RIP

  6. David was a gentle gentleman who passionately cared for the environment and others. He was devoted to both Joann and Madeline and their beautiful life on the Nullaki.
He played an integral part in the bushfire brigade and made many friends through it.
He will be sadly missed by all of us who knew him.

  7. Davo was a joy to be around with his wicked sense of humor. And cheeky, it must have amazed even him at times.
We meet Dave and Joann scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef, his love of life extended far-

  8. Gone too soon! Dave was always warm, friendly, fit, and healthy, an inspiration to us all. My fondest memories of him are at the beach with his beloved Jo and their dog, enjoying walks and swims at sunset. I also remember him knee-deep in bush scrub, passionately pulling out weeds to help the environment. My last encounter with him was when the Eden Rd gate jammed; he promptly stopped to fix it so everyone else could drive through. Dave leaned in through my car window and casually remarked that the "gate was being a bit goofy." Rest in peace, Dave. You are dearly missed in our Nullaki neighbourhood.

  9. We are saddened and will miss David. David’s knowledge and love for the Nullaki was shared generously and we will forever appreciate
    that.
    Rest in peace David

  10. David will always be remembered as the consummate gentleman. His care for the environment and doing right by others showed through in everything he did. Highly intelligent with a quick witted humour, but never condescending.. I have learned a few lessons from David and am a better person because of knowing him. All the best to Joann and Madeline from Shaun and WICC.

  11. Dave was the most lovely person – kind, curious and so full of delightful humour. We first met way back in the mid-1990's through our shared love of the marine realm, something that carried on until just a few months back. We will miss all the images of his beach finds and were happy he was part of our lives for so long.
    With love,
    Beth and Shaun

  12. Having friends like David in Nullaki gave us a sense of belonging whenever we returned to Nullaki. It’s hard to accept that David is no longer with us, as his presence is so vivid in our memories. He was a caring and gentle soul, always ready to help. We will forever miss him.

  13. So long ago it seems, Dave lived in Traverse City attending NMC, working together at Dino's along with the rest of the "booger" gang. Oh, what fun at B-12.
So incredibly happy Dave was part of my life his humor was contagious - although the distance years - will never forget you my friend - God Bless, will see you again I am sure - we can have a frosted mug ....

  14. Ya’ know I always expected to see Dave again…enjoy his company again, swap stories of families, fun and friends…again. For he seemed so young, so bright and we had a lot of catching up to do. Now, he’ll be added to my ever expanding list of Heavenly hugs that honestly keeps me eager to earn the rights to Gods kingdom.
Sometimes, when you’re young and impressionable, you meet people you just love. When the 18 year olds early explorations away from home, away from parents, creates glorious independence …you meet people you love, forever…as best buds, brothers.
We lived together in school apartments.
We lived together in snow bound cabins in the woods.
We lived together in a ‘underground ‘coal bin’ ($10 a month) in Traverse City.
But most of all we just laughed a lot, adventured through the perils of women and motorcycles ( both so dangerous) and grew up and apart knowing a bond of risk and reward.
The best people; make the best Angels 🙏🏽
A toast to Dave, I look forward to seeing you again buddy.

  15. David was in a word SPECIAL! I have know Joann and David since they got married and Joann before that as a special friend from college. Joann you are a special friend and the love you shared with David was inspirational and deep! Through Joann I had time to be with David through the many years in the states and through visits to Australia. David cooked for us and shared his recipes! He would meet us on our hikes to keep us company. His smile was infectious. His company was upbeat, interesting and he was always a great listener! David became an integral part of the deep friendship with Joann. Thank you David for always taking care of us all, for being an example of a true gentleman, a truly giving, funny, warm and fascinating person. You enriched my life.

  16. I met David and Joann many, many years ago on a scuba diving trip that started in Bali (when Bali still had dirt streets and wooden shacks for craft shops). As a solo traveler they immediately took me under their wings and a life long friendship and many diving adventures began.

Dave's kindness, warmth and caring were only the beginning of this extraordinary man. His humor was irresistible: once as part of a class assignment I asked them to describe how they saw me( yes, it was one of those classes). Graciously replying David's first comment was "No visible goiters"!!! I didn't get past that.

He will be greatly missed as he was one of a kind. Bintangs on me, Davo.

  17. Oh Davo.
Thanks for your wonderful friendship and kindness. For your wildly imaginative explanations of beach trash or treasure and your love of the natural world. For your cheeky humour, quick wit and dorky dad jokes. For greeting Zac at his level and playing big dogs with Nick.
You will remain in our hearts forever - an adverbally lovely person.
We will all miss you so so much.
We will keep walking, talking and chasing stick with your precious girls.
