Ian was a wonderful potter and a larger than life character. He taught me so much about how to be a ceramic artist and to be self employed in the 8 years we worked together at J Shed in Fremantle in the early 1990’s. He loved his work, his family and his music especially Van Morrison and Eric Clapton. I will miss him and am very sad about his passing.
Although we are not able to attend his service we remember Ian s generosity, talent and friendship and the many enjoyable times we spent together.
With love to Jennifer and his family.

Sue and Paul xx.
Thank you, Ian, for being a firm, steady friend over many years. My home has some unique and exquisite pottery made by your hands. You helped us learn to sail. You and Jennifer always welcomed me when I visited Denmark. My thoughts and love are with Jennifer, family and close friends.

You will be sorely missed.
Who would know when we first visited a pottery on Beaufort Street this down to earth Scotsman would become a such firm friend. So many good memories Ian , from some hilarious moments when we launched Jester in the River, to the warm welcome for Lukas when he came into our lives. Then there was sailing away to Rottnest and waving goodbye when you and George set sail for Scotland. Morning swims and walks on the beach at Williams bay, always the best brew, your home made bread and fine dining at home.
And of course the quiet moments when the craftsman shared with another creative person in the pottery full of amazement and finely honed skill. Who could ask for a better friend .
Our deepest sympathies to our dearest Jennifer, Jonathon & Bruce and all those who loved you dearly in your family across this world . Go gently with your grief

My early memories of my uncle, Ian, are of a gruff man with a sparkle in his eye and a cheeky grin, always very comfortable in his own skin. I remember watching in awe as Ian and George pushed off from the docks in Fremantle for Scotland in such a small yacht. As we did then, Ian wishing you fair winds and following seas again now.
Ian MacRae,was my role model when I started potting in the early 70's
Beaufort Pottery was a must visit every time I drove down from the Hills
A master potter quietly getting on with the job, with a pipe between his teeth, and twinkle in his eye with that Scottish wry humour
Vale Ian,you will be missed.
